Linda Leake is the inventor of make a mark!™ . She refers to make a mark!™ as a God thing.
Prior to going to bed one evening she prayed for God to bring her an idea. The next morning she awoke, drew the idea on a sheet of paper next to the bed, and pulled out a portable sewing machine she hadn't used in 30 years.
She went to the fabric store to select various fabrics and began sewing. This story gets better when you realize that Linda is not a domestic diva. She took sewing in high school. Now she is attempting to make a prototype. With prototype in hand, she visited a patent attorney to get a patent. The good news was that the patent attorney said that because it is simple, it should sell easily.
It took 18 months to get the patent. It took many more years to learn how to get a single product to market.
It took more years to find a US manufacturer to make it to the quality standards and price point the consumer demanded.
As the years went by, the internet became more sophisticated. Now make a mark!™ is being launched into a worldwide market.
Another requirement in getting make a mark!™ to market was to find an organization where the assembly and fulfillment of make a mark!™ would benefit the workers. We were able to establish a relationship with The Durham Exchange Club Industries (DECI), a private, nonprofit community-based vocational rehabilitation program, serving adults with disabilities in Durham, North Carolina. A self-supporting industry, DECI provides superior services to customers. The revenues earned by DECI's production services provide job training and job placement for adults who have disabilities, giving them the opportunity to work either at DECI or in the community. DECI's quality management systems are registered to ISO9001: 2000 standards and certified by QMI.
Make a mark!™ can be used in numerous ways, textbooks, children's books, Bibles, Daytimers, training manuals, journals, cookbooks. Students, book clubs and Bible study groups will find it an invaluable tool. Everyone needs a make a mark!™ The product was designed so that any size highlighter can fit into it once this one is used up and will come in tubes with a nickel or black cap.
